On June 17th an outdoor quilt collection was held in the parking lot of Above and Beyond Sewing and Vacuum with the help of 14 volunteer workers. With the temperatures hitting over 95 degrees, portable canopies were put up to help keep the sun away. There were 49 dedicated volunteers who wore masks, practiced safe social distancing, and brought 356 quilts, 211 BACA bags, 93 face masks, 8 crocheted blankets, and 19 pillow cases. Each of the 356 quilts was individually photographed so they can be viewed in a slide show at a later date. The quilts then had to be folded and put into large bags that were labeled for assorted agencies who will receive them in the future. The huge amount of quilts collected brings the total number to 842 for 2020, and there have been 287 quilts donated. There will be another outdoor gathering again if FHQ members aren’t allowed to meet as a large group in a close setting.
