On January 17th an outdoor quilt collection was held to gather quilts for the Marshall fire victims. There were 43 members who stopped to drop off quilts, pick up batting and take quilts needing to be quilted. The astounding total amount of quilts dropped off was 709. A total of 471 quilts and 69 blankets/afghans were made solely by FHQ members. In addition to that there were 169 quilts from people and guilds across Colorado, Washington state, and Virginia. Quilt tops were also sent from Texas and California. Thirty two of the quilts were pulled for Craig Hospital and the Valentine’s dance. All the quilts were bagged and loaded into five large cars for delivery.
As the day was ending there was a surprise visit from Austin and Eddie, photo journalists from Channels 4 and 9. What a surprise, but also what a wonderful way to gain some publicity for this accomplishment of Firehouse Quilts members.
Thank you to all who helped to make this such a successful collection day.
